This page explains my privacy policy. I am attorney Rick Horowitz, and I personally wrote, and therefore approve, this policy.

Definitions

In the following Privacy Policy, whenever I say “we,” or “our,” or similar words, I am referring to myself (attorney Rick Horowitz), or my office, or both.

“My office” consists primarily of my Office Manager, Serena Maldonado. However, it may also include other persons employed by me on a part-time, or independent-contractor basis, to assist with services my office provides. Examples include private investigators, paralegals, process servers, and other professional service providers.

Your Personal Information

I value the privacy of my clients and website/blog readers. Any of the following personal information that may be made available to me, or my office, because you browsed or navigated pages or posts on my site will be kept confidential:

  • First and last name
  • Your Address
  • Other contact information, for example, telephone number, fax number, email address, and other similar information
  • Any other information you privately provide to obtain a service from me, or my office

Examples of scenarios where people might provide personal information include, but might not be limited, to:

  • Emailing, calling or communicating with the lawyer or law firm.
  • Posting a question or comment through the site.
  • Requesting literature, including ePamphlets.
  • Participating in an online survey.
  • Requesting inclusion in an email or other mailing list.
  • Any other business-related reason where contact between my office and another individual is involved, which is, after all, primarily aimed at helping me accomplish my mission.

We provide you the opportunity to agree or decline to give your personal information via the Internet, insofar as that is within our power to do. My office and I will inform you of the purpose for the collection of your information, and we do not intend to transfer your personal information to third parties without your consent, except under the limited conditions described under the discussion entitled “Information Sharing and Disclosure” below. If you choose to provide us with your personal information, we may transfer that information, within office or to a third party service provider (such as an investigator, or expert witness) as necessary.

Domain Information Collection

We may collect domain information to enable us to analyze how our visitors use this site. This data enables us to become more familiar with which people visit our site, how often they visit, and what parts of the site they visit most often. My office, and I, use this information to improve its Internet-based offerings. This information is collected automatically and requires no action on your part. This primarily works through Google Analytics, or Google Ads.

Use of Cookies and Tracking User Traffic

Some pages on this site may use “cookies”—small files that the site places on your hard drive for identification purposes. A cookie file can contain information such as a user ID to track the pages visited, but the only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. We use the files for site registration and customization the next time you visit us.

Some parts of my site may also use cookies to track user traffic patterns. We do this in order to determine the usefulness of our website information to visitors and to see how effective our navigational structure is in helping visitors reach that information.

Please note that cookies cannot read data off of your hard drive.

Your web browser may allow you to be notified when you are receiving a cookie, giving you the choice to accept it or not. If you prefer not to receive cookies while browsing my website, you can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies and refuse the cookie when your browser alerts you to its presence.

You can also refuse all cookies by turning them off in your browser, By not accepting cookies, some pages might not fully function and you might not be able to access certain information on my site.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Your personal information is never shared outside my office without your permission, except under conditions listed below:

  • Consenting to share your information to a third party service provider working on my behalf to serve you.
  • Requiring my office to provide you with a product or service.

We will also disclose your personal information, if required to do so by law, or in urgent circumstances, to protect personal safety, the public or our sites. This will only be done as required by law, or the California Rules of Professional Conduct as relates to lawyers and law offices.

If you visit my website in order to troll me, I reserve the right to mock you on this platform, and others, including using whatever information you gave me, to ensure the fullest extent of such mockery (“mockingness”? “teasery”? “fun-pokering”?).

Internet Security

We strive to protect your personal information; however, we urge you to take every precaution to protect your personal data when you are on the Internet. Change your passwords often, use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols where possible. For more information on how to create secure passwords, visit this page. (Note: I do not maintain this page, nor do I affiliate, with them, or their website. I simply find the page has useful information on creating good passwords.)

Protecting the Privacy of Children

Children under 18 years old are not the target audience for our website. To protect their privacy, we prohibit the knowing solicitation of personal information from these children. Our website is, however, viewable by anyone who knows how to find it. Our website does not have ways of restricting children from signing up for our newsletters, or using our contact forms. It is therefore possible that children with enough knowledge on the use of Internet submission forms will sign up for our newsletters, or use our contact forms.

Parents are advised that our website is unable to police your children. In fact, we don’t even like the word “police,” so we have no intention of emulating them.

If you believe one of your children has subscribed to our newsletter, or submitted a contact form, you should contact me, or my office manager, via email. To do so, you would use our first names @rhdefense.com. My first name, of course, is Rick, and Serena’s first name, perhaps unsurprisingly, is Serena.

By the way, if your child visited this website because your child broke the law, I can help with that, too.

Links to Third Party Sites

This site may contain links to other sites. We do not share your personal information with those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. I encourage you to learn about the privacy policies of those companies. We connect to other companies, in some inscrutable ways, including Google. This includes Google Analytics, to see how people use our site, and help us improve the content and structure of our site; Google Ads, which personally handled by me, Rick Horowitz, to advertise my services; and Mailchimp, which I use to create (one day, hopefully, I mean, I’m supposedly do it now, and I pay for it, but sometimes it takes a back-burner) newsletters.

I also have a Facebook page for the office, which I maintain myself; an Instagram page, which, again, is maintained by me; and an occasionally political and off-the-wall Twitter feed, which I advise you to avoid, that is also maintained by me.

Other than that, my Pages, and Blog Posts, often contain links to stories, citations, or other website pages, or posts, that seem relevant to what I am writing about on my Pages, or Blog Posts. Other than having found them relevant, and useful for providing other information related to my Pages, or Blog Posts, I usually have nothing to do with them.

One exception to the rule that I have nothing to do with those websites, blogs, or individual articles and posts, is the Simple Justice Blog, owned by my friend Scott Greenfield. A deal I made with the Devil requires me to reference Scott’s blog as often as possible in order to ensure my own success, and longevity. Scott had no part in that deal, and probably suffers immensely because of it.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

I reserve the right to change, modify or update this policy at any time without notice. I will post any substantial changes in the way we use your personal information to this site. All decisions about such things are ultimately the responsibility of me, criminal defense lawyer Rick Horowitz.

If you have questions or concerns about our Privacy Policy, please email us at the contact information on the site.
